News that we were giving away Bibles spread throughout the region of Busia, Uganda. The opportunity to receive a Bible inspired even more people to participate in our church leader training. Thanks to the generous gift of Christianbook International Outreach, we were able to give Africa Study Bibles to over 250 pastors, church leaders, and people of influence in the community. We were told that their families would hear the news and come to see and read the Bibles in each household.
The notes and commentary in the Africa Study Bibles we distributed are all written by theologically-trained Africans. The study Bible resources incorporate the writers’ cultural knowledge to help apply Scripture to everyday life in Africa. As we taught, we referred to many of these notes and resources, and we created handouts to direct them to the articles related to our training. Now these leaders have a solid, relevant resource they can refer to for assistance in their understanding and application of Scripture. And they can build their lessons and sermons with the support of culturally relevant articles and examples.
